I think my user.config file might be messed up and I know it can help to delete it so that the software can start with a newly generated one with default settings. How do I do this?

Go to:
%AppData%\..\Local\Cognex_Corporation
Look for the folder with the name that begins with
Cognex.Explorer.ProcHost._StrongName.
The user.config file you can find in there is the one for In-Sight Vision Suite mainline products.
