Create Designer Trace Log File

Instruction how to enable trace log file which can be helpful in Designer troubleshooting

Question

How to enable Trace log in Designer

Answer

  • Open notepad with administrative rights. (i.e. right-click, Run as Administrator)
  • Browse to the install path of Designer, e.g. C:\Program Files\Cognex\Designer\XX - where XX is Designer version
  • Open the nlog.config file
  • Replace <logger name="*" minlevel="Info" writeTo="CD_AsyncWrapperTarget"> With <logger name="*" minlevel="Trace" writeTo="CD_AsyncWrapperTarget">
  • Logfile can be found c:\Users\<user>\Documents\Cognex Designer\Logs\CD_Log.txt
     

What can be helpful during troubleshooting with CSE:

  • timestamp where error happens
  • start fresh and get only relevant data (delete old CD_Log.txt file)
