output.content vs output.telnet

Summary of the difference between output.content and output.telnet in DataMan scripting with relation to Edge Intelligence

18/09/2024

Question

What is the difference between output.content and output.telnet in DataMan scripting in my Edge Intelligence setup?

Answer

  • DataMan - Edge Intelligence (Standard Results)
  • Edge Intelligence Essentials gets the DataMan results from output.telnet.
  • output.telnet will get the value of output.content if it’s not set.
  • If output.telnet and output.content both are set, Edge Intelligence will get whatever is set on output.telnet.

DataMan - Edge Intelligence (Tunnel Trigger Results)

  • Tunnel Manager systems doesn't use output.telnet for the "Tunnel Trigger Result".
  • Tunnel Manager gets its data through port 47777.

Dataman - PLC

  • DataMan also interacts with PLC using a variety of factory floor protocols, That communication goes through output.IndustrialProtocol.
  • If PLC communication is configured to be sent via output.telnet, then that will also be fed to Edge Intelligence's "Standard" Trigger results.

Types of protocol use for PLCs

  • If you're using a Mitsubishi PLC, then you'd probably use SLMP.
  • If you're using a Siemens PLC, then Profinet.
  • If you're using Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, then EtherNet/IP
