In-Sight L38 Continuous Imaging Method and Data Storage

How to use Continuous Imaging Method and Data Storage

07/05/2025

Details

If you want to continuously capture images along the Y-axis direction of movement, such as on a conveyor belt, you can perform continuous imaging using the following settings:

As shown in Figure 1, set the "Trigger Type" to "Self" in the Trigger tab of the Capture tab.

Then, as shown in Figure 2, the "Requested Overlap Length [mm]" in the Point Cloud tab will become editable instead of grayed out, allowing you to enter the length for overlapping imaging.

In Figure 2, the fixed scan length is set to 50mm, and the overlap length is set to 10mm.

If you want to save the continuously captured images in a film strip, press the record start button on the film strip, then switch to online mode and press the trigger button once before moving the workpiece. When the signal from the encoder is input to In-Sight L38, imaging will start.

As shown in Figure 3, the first image captures data from 0-50mm. The second image captures data from 40-90mm due to the overlap length being set to 10mm.

The coordinate values for each image always start from 0mm in the Y-axis within the coordinate system of the captured image. The scan length in the Y direction for one image (50mm in this example) is not added for multiple images (automatic management of the Nth image is not performed).

If you want to manage which image is currently being captured, use the Clocked Data → Count tool in the function, set the event to $A$0, and uncheck the reset option. This will increase the count by one for each image captured, allowing you to check which image is being inspected in the job.

Figure 4 shows the property sheet of the Count tool and an example of using the Count tool in cell B4 to display that the current image being captured is the sixth one.
