SD Cards and DataMan Readers

Fact sheet about using SD cards with DataMan readers

15/09/2024

Question

What is the purpose of SD cards? What is the expected behavior when using them to restore or save configurations?

Answer

The following is a list of facts concerning the use of SD cards with DataMan readers:

  • The SD card is formatted as FAT
  • If an SD card is installed, "Save Settings" will save to both the reader's memory and to the SD card
  • Users can disable backup/restore functionality
  • At startup, the reader compares the config in its memory vs. the config on the SD card. If the SD card has a valid configuration, it will take priority over the configuration saved on the reader.
  • The SD card holds both the regular config/backup data as well as extrinsic calibration data (used by calibrated FOV systems)
  • Hardware-specific data including serial number, MAC address, and intrinsic calibration data are not used (or stored) on the SD card. It may contain some identifying information in the config file in an encrypted format.
  • The reader should automatically load settings from the SD card if the SD card has been used on another reader. You could then also save these settings onto the reader's memory just by doing "Save Settings". Check the reader name, for example, and see if it changes.
