Selection of Communication Protocol in Wafer ID

Guidelines for selecting the proper communication protocol in Wafer ID

15/09/2024

Question

According to the manuals, "Communication in Native Mode," "In-Sight Protocol," "EG Protocol," "LKx5 Protocol," "TEL Protocol," and "TSK Protocol" all exist.   Which communication protocol should be selected when operating Wafer ID camera from the host PLC?

Answer

"EG Protocol", "LKx5 Protocol", "TEL Protocol", and "TSK Protocol" are implemented for compatibility of the communication protocols adopted by the equipment manufacturers. If you want to follow the protocol of the device manufacturer, the modification of the control side will be minimized if you adopt those communication protocols.

Otherwise, either "Communication in Native Mode" or "In-Sight Protocol" should be adopted. Which will be adopted depends on what operation you want from the PLC, there is no need for sophisticated operations such as job switching or online/offline switching, and PLC will adopt "In-Sight Protocol" if you want to only command "read" and "(partial) tune" to WaferID camera. Conversely, you will adopt "Communication in Native Mode" if you want to do sophisticated control.

Note that communication in "Communication in Native Mode" and "In-Sight Protocol" is not a tradeoff, but both controls can be implemented at the same time.
