Details

To upgrade a DataMan 8700DX wireless reader/base from to the latest revision, do the following:

Power up the reader and base station.

Make sure they are properly paired.

Put the reader into the base station (if not already there).

Connect to the reader using the DataMan Setup Tool (DMST) application and update the firmware.

Wait for the firmware to upload – this will take roughly 10 minutes. During this time the lights should flash green/red.

Once the firmware is uploaded, the reader will reboot. The reboot may take longer than normal.

IMPORTANT: Before the reader fully reboots, remove the reader from the base station. The reason is - the base station might try to revert the reader back to an older version of Firmware to make them match.

Confirm the firmware loaded properly using the OLED screen. The reader will likely not be able to pair to the base station at this point. This is expected.

Reset the reader to Factory Defaults – can use either the OLED or an RPC. The reboot following a reset may take longer than normal.

Connect to the Base Station in DataMan Setup Tool (DMST), and update the firmware.

Wait for the firmware to upload – this will take roughly 10 minutes.

Once uploaded, the base will reboot. The reboot following a firmware update may take longer than normal.

On the home page of the DataMan Setup Tool (DMST) make sure the base is being detected and updated firmware version is shown.

Reset the base station to Factory Defaults. Again, the reboot may ne longer then usual.

Upon reboot, both the base and reader should now show on the home page of the DataMan Setup Tool (DMST) as having the updated firmware installed.
